About Me & My Work
My name is Allyson Conn, and I’m a ceramic artist from Morehead, Kentucky. I’ve been working with clay for about five years, and I’m continually drawn to the way it connects me to the earth and to home. Much of my inspiration comes from the Appalachian Mountains — their colors, textures, and quiet presence find their way into nearly everything I make.
I work primarily with earthenware and stoneware, and sometimes with hand-dug clay from around my area. Each piece is shaped by hand and guided by a love for simple forms, natural surfaces, and the beauty that comes from imperfection. Through my work, I hope to share a sense of warmth, calm, and connection to the land that inspires me.
The Heart Of The Process
Clay has been part of human life for thousands of years — shaped by hand, fired in open flames, and made to serve both need and beauty. That long history is part of what draws me to ceramics. I’m inspired by how something so simple and humble can become something lasting and meaningful through patience, heat, and touch.
I often think about the connection between old traditions and modern making — how the same earth that once held water or grain can now hold a moment of quiet reflection. To me, working with clay is about honoring that history while finding my own voice within it.
